Common questions
What is the nisab for zakat?
Nisab is the minimum wealth threshold: roughly the value of 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver. If your net zakatable wealth is below nisab, no zakat is due. Silver-based nisab is lower, so more people qualify under it.
Is zakat due on gold jewellery I wear?
Scholars differ on this. Many say zakat applies to all gold above nisab; others exempt jewellery worn regularly. This calculator includes the full value you enter — adjust the gold field to match the opinion you follow, or ask a scholar.
Do I subtract my debts before calculating?
Yes. Enter what you owe in the debts field — zakat is calculated on net wealth (assets minus debts).
When should I pay zakat?
Most people pay during Ramadan, but zakat becomes due one lunar year after your wealth first reached nisab. Paying early in Ramadan is common and convenient.
